Riesling is perhaps the most noble white wine variety but also the most underrated, unloved, and often undervalued. If Alsace is the region which most of the wine trade drink, then Riesling is the grape variety! It is characterised by delicious, perfumed citrus fruit, powerful streaky acidity and often a gram or two of residual sugar. Classically Riesling comes from Germany such as our Maximum Grunhaus Monople Riesling or from Alsace such as our Domaine Mittnacht Riesling. However, there is a new home for Riesling in South Australia, particularly in the Watervale district of the Clare Valley whose style with a pinch more soft apple fruit is winning many admirers.
