Sauvignon Blanc is a widely planted white wine grape variety known for its aromatic, crisp, fresh wines. Its original home is in the Loire Valley in France where it produces the classic, restrained elegant wines of Sancerre & Pouilly Fume such as those of Domaine Andre Dezat. The revolution of Sauvignon Blanc spread to New Zealand, where in Marlborough it was developed into a new style with ripe, opulent flavours of gooseberry, green pepper, asparagus, and crisp citrus acidity. A third style is perhaps those of Sauvignon Blanc of South Africa, where the retrained style of the Loire is balanced by the riper fruit of Marlborough, an excellent example of this style is Bouchard Finlayson Sauvignon Blanc.
