Syrah as it is known mainly in France or Shiraz as it is mainly known in the new wine world is a grape variety which produces red wines of a full-bodied nature showing characteristic of black fruits, black pepper, savoury notes, and a little spice. Its spiritual home in the Northern Rhone in France where it makes the long-lived wines of Hermitage and Saint Joseph such as our examples from Jean Luc Colombo & Yves Cuilleron. It is blended with Grenache & Mourvèdre in the Southern Rhone to produce Chateauneuf du Pape, Lirac and Cairanne which can be found in our list. Further afield, there are wonderful example of Shiraz to be found in Australia, Chile, California, and New Zealand to name a but a few.
